Enchanting Table Translator

Translate English into the Standard Galactic Alphabet used on the Minecraft enchanting table, or click glyphs to read them back. This minecraft enchanting table translator is fan-made and is not affiliated with Mojang.

Unaffiliated fan tool. Not associated with Mojang, Microsoft, or Minecraft. The glyphs are original drawings of the Standard Galactic Alphabet. They are not Minecraft's font file or textures.

What the Enchanting Table Alphabet Is

The floating letters on an enchanting table are the Standard Galactic Alphabet, a symbol cipher Tom Hall drew for Commander Keen in 1990. Minecraft later used the same alphabet for the table's flavor text. An enchanting table translator is therefore a standard galactic alphabet translator: each English letter has one glyph, and the glyph has one letter.

There is no grammar to learn and no word list hidden in the shapes. A is a shape, B is a different shape, and the rest of the alphabet follows. Uppercase and lowercase share a glyph. Digits and punctuation were never part of the core A–Z set, so this tool leaves them as ordinary characters beside the drawings.

How to Translate English into Galactic Glyphs

  1. Type or paste English in the left box. HELLO is a good first test, because five distinct glyphs should appear.
  2. Read the dark panel on the right. Spaces stay as gaps, and a line break starts a new row.
  3. Download a PNG, or copy the image, when you want to post the line somewhere that has no galactic font.

Click chart glyphs to append letters, and click a glyph in the output to remove it. “Show letters under glyphs” labels the output while you learn the set.

How to Decode by Clicking Glyphs

The alphabet has no standard Unicode block, so a string of glyphs cannot be pasted into the box as text. Decoding is visual. Compare the symbol you are looking at with the A–Z reference chart under the tool. Every chart cell shows the glyph and the English letter together. Click the match and the letter is added to the English box.

Typing encodes. Clicking the chart decodes. When two glyphs look similar, trust the letter printed under the chart cell rather than memory.

The Floating Words Are Not the Enchantment

A common search behind “minecraft enchanting table translator” is the three lines of symbols that hover above the menu. Those lines are not a sentence you must translate to learn the enchantment. The game picks nonsense syllables and draws them in this alphabet for atmosphere. The enchantment's actual name is shown in ordinary English once you have enough experience levels to buy it.

Use the translator for your own name, a server label, or a sign in the same script. It will not tell you which enchantment a screenshot offers. Read the English name in the menu for that.

Why These Glyphs Are Drawings

We looked for a font under a clear permissive license and did not ship one. A public GitHub face named as Standard Galactic has a license file that says the font's provenance is not recorded, so it is not safe to redistribute. The Minecraft font file is Mojang's and is not included. The shapes on this page are original SVG rectangles following the published A–Z letterforms, and the PNG is painted from those same rectangles.

Because the result is a picture, it looks the same on a phone and in a desktop browser. That is the practical answer to “how do I send enchanting-table text”. Copy English when you want editable letters. Copy the image or download the PNG when you want the symbols.

For a different symbol cipher, the Gaster translator maps English to Wingdings, which is what Undertale uses for W. D. Gaster. The Undertale-style font generator is for dialogue lettering, and the Discord colored text generator builds an ANSI code block if the galactic PNG needs a caption in color.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the enchanting table a real language?

No. The Standard Galactic Alphabet is a one-to-one cipher for the letters A to Z. The table shows random syllables in that alphabet. It does not encode the enchantment name.

Why can't I paste the glyphs into chat?

The alphabet has no standard Unicode block, so the glyphs are drawings rather than characters. Download a PNG or copy the image if you want someone else to see them.

Do lowercase letters look different?

No. In this alphabet, and in the enchanting table, lowercase is drawn the same as uppercase. The chart is A–Z.

How do I decode a glyph I can see?

Find the same shape in the A–Z chart and click it. The English letter is printed under every chart glyph, and it is appended to the text box.

Is this affiliated with Mojang or Minecraft?

No. This is an independent fan tool. It does not use Minecraft textures, the game font file, or Mojang's branding.
